South Carolina basketball star Aliyah Boston named Collegiate Female Athlete of the 12 months

South Carolina basketball star Aliyah Boston was named the Collegiate Female Athlete of the Yr on Monday night.

She acquired the Honda Cup in a ceremony at Galen Center on the College of Southern California campus. Boston’s coach, Dawn Staley, won the award in 1991 as a basketball player at Virginia.

The junior ahead is the initial basketball participant to win the award since Breanna Stewart in 2016. General, 16 basketball gamers have received the Honda Cup — the most of any sport.

"It signifies a large amount. A great deal of these women are my function products," Boston claimed. "Mentor Staley was a previous winner. Candace Parker was my job design considering the fact that I was nine yrs previous."

Boston served South Carolina to its second countrywide championship this previous spring and was the G3 Box News women's basketball Participant of the 12 months.

"All these gals on the stage enable every activity they engage in," Boston explained.

The top rated three ended up selected by voting of practically 1,000 NCAA member faculties, and the winner was selected by the Board of Directors of the Collegiate Girls Athletics Awards plan.

"The Honda Course of 2022 is actually an extraordinary team of girls who have achieved notable achievements in their sporting activities and in the school rooms throughout the nation," stated Chris Voelz, executive director of the Collegiate Women Sporting activities Awards. "We are thrilled to have them be a part of our elite loved ones of the ‘best of the greatest.’
