Biden condemns assault on Zeldin: 'Violence has completely no area in our modern society or our politics'

President Biden on Friday condemned the assault on New York GOP gubernatorial prospect Rep. Lee Zeldin," stressing that "violence has absolutely no position in our culture or our politics."

Zeldin, R-N.Y., was attacked with a sharp item at a marketing campaign stop in Perinton, N.Y. Thursday evening. 

"I condemn the attack on Congressman Zeldin in the strongest terms," President Biden reported in a assertion Friday afternoon. "As I’ve said in advance of, violence has totally no place in our modern society or our politics."

The president stated he is "in particular grateful for the braveness of those people who right away intervened, and that he is unharmed and was in a position to continue his speech."

Biden, however, stopped limited of addressing the launch of Zeldin's alleged assailant. 

The gentleman who allegedly attacked Zeldin, David G. Jakubonis, 43 of Fairport, N.Y., was billed with attempted assault in the second degree. He was arraigned in Perinton City Courtroom and unveiled from custody on his own recognizance, the sheriff’s department explained.

Zeldin experienced predicted that his alleged attacker would be introduced, citing New York’s legislation.

"His words as he experimented with to stab me a several several hours in the past had been ‘you’re done’, but many attendees, including @EspositoforNY, immediately jumped into motion & tackled the guy," Zeldin tweeted early Friday.  "Regulation enforcement was on the scene within minutes. The attacker will probably be right away released under NY’s legal guidelines."

Zeldin was supplying a speech about bail reform at a Veterans of Foreign Wars submit when the alleged assault transpired.
