Canadian jail inmate faces lifestyle sentence for conspiring to import and distribute fentanyl in US

A Canadian prison inmate pleaded responsible to conspiring with yet another inmate to import and distribute fentanyl in the United States, which led to numerous overdoses and fatalities, authorities explained. 

Jason Joey Berry, 39, of Montreal, pleaded responsible to conspiracy to distribute and have with intent to distribute managed substances and managed material ensuing in severe bodily harm and demise, and conspiracy to import managed substances and controlled substance into the United States resulting in significant bodily damage and loss of life, the Justice Office claimed. 

"Jason Berry was section of a fentanyl trafficking ring that contributed to the opioid epidemic plaguing our communities," stated Assistant Legal professional Standard Kenneth A. Well mannered, Jr. of the Justice Department’s Felony Division.

Federal prosecutors reported Berry was imprisoned in Canada when he conspired with Daniel Vivas Ceron, 41, another inmate, to distribute drugs and income laundering. 

The plan arrived to the interest of investigators with the Jan. 3, 2015 overdose dying of Bailey Henke in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In overall, the ring was responsible for 4 lethal overdoses, authorities stated.

Ceron pleaded responsible in 2019 to various federal drug rates. In addition to Berry, many other individuals in North Dakota and Oregon have been billed in the drug ring. 

Berry is slated to be sentenced Jan. 17, 2023 and faces a obligatory minimum amount sentence of existence in jail.
