Chicago officer shot: 27-yr-old suspect arrested, billed with attempted murder

Chicago has submitted prices against a suspect accused of critically wounding a law enforcement officer and trying to shoot yet another.

A Chicago law enforcement officer was in serious but stable condition Friday immediately after staying shot several times by a convicted felon although responding to a domestic violence phone, law enforcement say. 

Jalen Vales, 27, has been identified as the suspect.

Vales is charged with two felony counts of tried murder in the first diploma, a person felony count of aggravated battery of an officer of the peace, and illegal possession of a firearm.

In accordance to the police report, Vales "shot a male Chicago Police Officer and tried to shoot a further Chicago Police Officer in th 1300 block of W. Taylor Avenue."

"The offender was placed into custody and billed appropriately," in accordance to the very same report.

The wounded male officer, who has served 15 years with Chicago Police, was ambushed when striving to make his way to a dwelling about 8:30 a.m. Friday early morning in the city’s Near West Side community, according to Supt. David Brown.

Brown informed reporters that no responding officers discharged their weapons. 

The wounded officer was transported to Stroger Hospital by a University of Illinois at Chicago officer who was checking law enforcement radio, "likely preserving his lifetime," Brown included.
