Dwight Smith, who received World Collection with Braves, useless at 58

Dwight Smith, a World Series winner outfielder with the Atlanta Braves, died Friday, the organization announced. He was 58.

Smith died of congestive coronary heart and lung failure, the crew said. He lived in Peachtree Metropolis, about 30 miles south of Atlanta.

"We are saddened by the passing earlier today of Dwight Smith, an integral member of our 1995 World Sequence championship workforce," the Braves explained.

"The 1989 NL Rookie of the 12 months runner-up, Dwight loved an eight-calendar year Main League occupation that integrated two postseason excursions with the Cubs and Braves. Dwight was also a beloved alumni member, and his infectious smile will be missed all-around Truist Park.

"Our deepest condolences to his wife Cheryl, daughters Tylor and Shannyn and son Dwight, Jr."

Smith built his debut with the Chicago Cubs in 1989. He strike .324 with 111 hits and nine home runs. He completed 2nd in Rookie of the Calendar year voting to teammate Jerome Walton.

Smith joined the Braves in 1995 and played in 103 game titles, winning the World Collection over the Cleveland Indians.

In among his time with the Cubs and Braves, he performed for the California Angels and Baltimore Orioles.

In eight several years, he batted .275 with a .755 OPS and 46 house operates.

His son, Dwight Smith Jr., has played in the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles.
