Elon Musk allegedly had affair with Google co-founder's wife: Report

Tech mogul Elon Musk allegedly had an affair with the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, ending their yearslong friendship, according to a report.

The alleged affair happened last year at the Art Basel festival in Miami, shortly after Musk's split from his girlfriend Grimes, sources told the Wall Street Journal, adding that Musk got on one knee at a party earlier this year to apologize and beg for forgiveness.

Brin acknowledged the apology, but the former friends are not speaking regularly to each other, per the sources cited in the report published on Sunday.

Brin is in divorce proceedings with Nicole Shanahan, citing "irreconcilable differences" in a court filing. The new report claims Brin filed for divorce several weeks after learning of the affair. The two had been married for nearly four years and have one daughter together.

Musk and Brin were longtime friends prior to the affair. Musk said he used to crash at Brin's Silicon Valley house for years. Brin gave Musk's electric car company Tesla $500,000 during the 2008 financial crisis. He also had large investments in Tesla but has since asked his financial advisers to sell them off, according to the Wall Street Journal.

A lawyer for Brin declined to comment, the report noted, while Musk and a representative for Shanahan did not reply to requests seeking comment as of press time. The Washington Examiner also reached out to Tesla and Brin for comment.

The two billionaires are regarded as two of the 10 richest people on Earth, with Musk being the richest at a net worth of $253.4 billion, according to Forbes. Brin is 10th on the list, with $89.9 billion.

Musk's personal life has gained increasing public scrutiny in recent months amid his public battle with a Twitter acquisition he is now trying to end. A recent Business Insider report found that Musk secretly had twins with Neurolink executive Shivon Zillis.
