Liz Cheney indicates Jan. 6 committee will subpoena Ginni Thomas

Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., instructed on Sunday that the Jan. 6 committee would subpoena Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, if she does not agree to testify willingly. 

"Ginni Thomas, the spouse of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, continuously corresponded with then White Household main of Workers Mark Meadows and Trump lawyer John Eastman, who was pushing this deranged theory," CNN host Jake Tapper explained Sunday, as Cheney appeared on "Condition of the Union." 

"She was composing to them about efforts to overturn the 2020 election benefits, not to point out her correspondence with Arizona lawmakers pushing faux electors," Tapper added. "Is your committee preparing on talking to Ginni Thomas, even although her law firm has expressed a reluctance to cooperate?"

"We are — the committee is engaged with her counsel. We absolutely hope that she will agree to occur in voluntarily. But the committee is thoroughly prepared to contemplate a subpoena if she does not," Cheney responded. "I hope it does not get to that. I hope she will appear in voluntarily. We have definitely spoken with quantities of individuals who are equally situated in phrases of the conversations that she was owning that you've described. So, it's extremely significant for us to communicate with her. And as I claimed, I hope she will agree to do so voluntarily. But I am certain we will contemplate a subpoena if she will not likely."

Virginia "Ginni" Thomas, also a conservative activist, was requested to communicate with the Jan. 6 committee after disclosures of her communications with Trump’s group foremost up to and on the day of the riot at the U.S. Capitol that happened even though Congress was certifying Joe Biden’s presidential victory.

But a attorney for Thomas afterwards questioned the committee for a lot more details on why her testimony was essential, arguing that it would serve as more "baseless harassment she has been subjected to since January 6."
