Tennessee volunteer firefighter billed with environment fires at church, Masonic Lodge

A Tennessee volunteer firefighter allegedly established a collection of suspicious fires that burned a church, Masonic Lodge and other structures in a smaller local community about the past thirty day period.

Leslie Roy Winchester, 19, was arrested in connection to numerous fires that had been set in the community of Waverly commencing in June, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) reported.

The very first hearth connected to Winchester transpired last month in the 5500 block of Bakerville Road in Waverly, the TBI said. Four other suspicious fires happened involving July 1 and July 8 at many places in the neighborhood.

Structures weakened or wrecked in the fires involved a church, Masonic Lodge, a previous fire corridor and a vacant house, according to authorities.

Two firefighters had been injured although battling two of the fires, WSMV-Tv described.

Investigators identified the volunteer firefighters as the suspect and billed him with a few counts of aggravated arson, three counts of arson, 6 counts of criminal trespassing, and 6 counts of vandalism over $10,000. 

Winchester was booked into the Humphreys County Jail on a $1,746,000 bond.

Winchester was awarded firefighter of the 12 months in December 2021 by Humphreys County, the station described. 

Waverly is situated about 66 miles west of Nashville.
