Trump White House officials expected to testify in prime-time Jan. 6 hearing

Two White House officials who served in the Trump administration are expected to testify in front of the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot on Thursday.

Matthew Pottinger, who served as deputy national security adviser, and Sarah Matthews, former White House deputy press secretary, are set to testify at Thursday's public hearing, according to multiple reports.

Pottinger and Matthews, who were both inside the White House on Jan. 6, are expected to testify about what unfolded inside the West Wing during the Capitol riot, CNN reported.

Both witnesses have already given a videotaped deposition to the committee and were among a group of Trump officials who resigned in the wake of the events on Jan. 6.

Matthews previously praised Cassidy Hutchinson, an aide to Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, for testifying in front of the committee last month.

"Anyone downplaying Cassidy Hutchinson’s role or her access in the West Wing either doesn’t understand how the Trump WH worked or is attempting to discredit her because they’re scared of how damning this testimony is," Matthews said.

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA), a member of the Jan. 6 panel, said Sunday that Thursday's prime-time hearing will focus on the 187 minutes President Donald Trump was doing "nothing to stop the riot" on Jan. 6.
