Do AOC's constituents back her calls to defund the police as violent crime surges in the district?

NEW YORK Metropolis – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's constituents advised G3 Box News they oppose defunding the police as crime in the district continues to rise. 

"I don't imagine it is a fantastic strategy to defund the law enforcement," 1 neighborhood, Daniel, explained. "I feel we require a lot more police in the space." 

Another gentleman, Tom, informed G3 Box News that Democrats' phone calls to defund the law enforcement were being "absurd." 

"It is absolutely preposterous," Tom stated.

Big crimes in Ocasio-Cortez's district have risen 57% compared to the stop of July 2020, according to an analysis former New York Law enforcement Division inspector Paul Mauro produced Monday. In contrast to past calendar year, important felonies these as murder, rape and robbery are up 44%. 

"The much more and additional time goes on, and you see these crimes go up in the town, particularly all around this space, it's gotten a large amount even worse," a single gentleman, Max, told G3 Box News. He said defunding the police is just not doing work.

Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat, has advocated for considerably less policing across the nation. She even criticized then-New York Mayor Bill de Blasio’s proposed $1 billion cut to the law enforcement office spending budget in 2020 as not going significantly more than enough.

"These proposed ‘cuts’ to the NYPD spending budget are a disingenuous illusion," the congresswoman explained in June 2020. "This is not a victory. The battle to defund policing proceeds."

Paul, a previous military policeman who resides in Ocasio-Cortez's district informed G3 Box News: "My father normally said, if you happen to be afraid of the police, you might be performing something improper."

But yet another local, Zion, claimed there needs to be better oversight of police, regardless of their finances.

"I would not say defund the police, but I would say drive accountability," he instructed G3 Box News.

"They do a superior occupation. There are some who are good," Zion explained. "But then there are other folks who are like they came from the pits of hell."

The defund the police motion obtained significant consideration in 2020 after a Minneapolis law enforcement officer killed George Floyd. A range of key U.S. towns, which include New York, Austin, Seattle and Washington D.C., decreased their police budgets following common anti-cop protests.

"At the time, a whole lot of people today considered that it was an economical solution to a challenge," Max explained.

Paul told G3 Box News: "When you see a police officer, you regard them. They're safeguarding you." 

"So, no, you are unable to defund the police," Paul said.

Ocasio-Cortez did not react to a request for comment.
