Duke's Dariq Whitehead suffers foot fracture in group exercise session

Duke men’s basketball freshman Dariq Whitehead underwent operation Tuesday to mend a fracture in his correct foot, the group declared Tuesday.

Whitehead experienced the injuries Monday throughout a staff exercise session and is anticipated to pass up some time. Duke head coach Jon Scheyer claimed in a news release the team was "assured" he would be back on the courtroom in the fall.

"We are joyful to share that Dariq underwent a productive course of action currently and is in the best care with our doctors and rehabilitation team," Scheyer reported. "We're self-confident he'll be back on the courtroom shortly."

The New Jersey indigenous was named the Naismith High Faculty Basketball Player of the calendar year in 2022 following obtaining an excellent time at Montverde Academy in Florida. He assisted the method to national championships in again-to-back seasons in 2021 and 2022.

Whitehead is section of a Duke freshman course that previously includes Dereck Lively II, Jaden Schutt, Christian Reeves, Mark Mitchell and Kyle Filipowski.

It is not a good start off to the new era for Duke basketball.

Mike Krzyzewski retired soon after the 2021-22 season leaving Scheyer to acquire the bench in his place.

Duke was 32-7 all round and 16-4 in the ACC. The crew produced it to the Closing 4 in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Event ahead of getting rid of to North Carolina.
