Meteor the culprit guiding loud 'boom' read across Northern Utah, officers say

A meteor was probably powering the loud boom citizens listened to throughout Northern Utah on Saturday, according to the Countrywide Climate Assistance.

Residents described listening to--and sensation--the boom at approximately 8:30 a.m. regional time on Saturday. Meteors occasionally build sonic booms as they split up even though rushing by means of the environment.

The NWS suggests its lightning mapper caught what possible were trails from a pair of items from the meteor.

"Bolstering the meteor theory for this morning's growth in Utah, the two reddish pixels demonstrated in excess of Davis and Morgan counties are from the GOES-17 Lightning Mapper, but not related with proof of thunderstorm action in satellite or radar. Probable the meteor path/flash," NWS Salt Lake Metropolis wrote on Twitter.

The meteor strike came amid the Perseid meteor shower, which lasted in the course of Friday and Saturday.
