Oklahoma's Brent Venables praises team amid Cale Gundy drama: 'Gotta go through some mud sometimes'

Oklahoma football mentor Brent Venables praised his crew for remaining targeted amid the resignation of longtime assistant Cale Gundy before this month.
Gundy resigned soon after he read through a "racially billed word" aloud from a player’s iPad "numerous instances" whilst seeking to make an instance of that player for becoming distracted throughout a movie session. Venables supported Gundy’s selection to resign amid calls from alumni to hold the mentor.
Venables, who changed Lincoln Riley as head coach of the Sooners, told ESPN the players have "handled anything fantastic."

Venables mentioned he satisfied with members of the team’s leadership about Gundy, but explained it was the previous assistant coach’s choice to resign. He explained he did not want the youthful college athletes to "bear the accountability" of the problem at hand.
Adrian Peterson and Joe Mixon were among the alumni who expressed guidance for Gundy immediately after the coach’s resignation.
