Cedar Point's Best Thrill Dragster shut down: World's second-tallest roller coaster is forever closing

The world’s 2nd-tallest roller coaster — Ohio amusement park Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster coaster — is completely closing, park officers announced on Tuesday. 

"Following 19 seasons in procedure with 18 million riders enduring the world’s initial strata coaster, Top rated Thrill Dragster, as you know it, is being retired," Tony Clark, the director of communications at Cedar Position, tweeted on Tuesday. "Nevertheless, Cedar Point’s legacy of trip innovation proceeds. Our crew is tough at operate, making a new and reimagined experience expertise."

The choice by Cedar Stage will come a 12 months soon after a small metallic object flew off the 420-foot tall Prime Thrill Dragster coaster and struck a female in the head at the park in Sandusky.

A condition investigation located no evidence that the park acted illegally or had motive to believe that the ride was unsafe. The trip has remained shut considering the fact that the Aug. 15, 2021, accident. 

Park officials did not say if the incident motivated their decision to permanently close the coaster.
