Tupelo, Mississippi pilot who threatened to ram aircraft into Walmart is down, in custody

The pilot traveling a small plane above Tupelo, Mississippi has landed right after threatening to crash into a Walmart Saturday, authorities said.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Place of work confirmed the aircraft, flown by a man later determined as Cory Patterson, had landed in a field in Ashland, around 60 miles northeast of Tupelo.

Details on the plane's landing keep on being unclear. 

The Tupelo Law enforcement Department explained it was notified close to 5 am this morning that a pilot traveling a "King Air style" plane was looking at crashing into a Walmart positioned on West Primary road.

Authorities have verified the plane, which is considered to have been stolen, was a set wing multi-engine 1987 Beech C90A design.

Authorities evacuated the Walmart and a Dodges eatery and fuel station situated in close proximity to the browsing centre to disperse people "as a lot as sensible."

Roads in west Tupelo and around the airport ended up reopened as the pilot headed northeast of Tupelo, the place authorities reportedly convened.

The law enforcement department achieved call with the pilot though his was in the air.

Patterson is reportedly considered to be an staff of the Tupelo Airport.

"The plane more than North MS is down," Gov. Tate Reeves reported on  Twitter. "Thankful the scenario has been resolved and that no one particular was injured.

"Thank you most of all to neighborhood, condition, and federal regulation enforcement who managed this condition with extraordinary professionalism," he included. 

It continues to be unclear what was at the rear of the pilot’s motive, but Patterson has taken into custody by Sheriff Robby Goolsby.
