The Washington Commanders have welcomed back rookie player Brian Robinson Jr. to the football field just over a month after he was shot.

The Commanders have activated Robinson for their game on Sunday against the Tennessee Tigers. The rookie returned to practice earlier this week after he had suffered two gunshot wounds in his lower body during an attempted robbery in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28, the team announced Saturday.

"He had a good week," head coach Ron Rivera said Friday afternoon. "This morning, he was there, and he was in good shape. So, we're pretty fired up."

Robinson was going through agility drills only 18 days after his attack and undergoing successful surgery. While he described the moments after he sustained the injury as "probably one of the lowest points in my life," he also used the time during his recovery to learn more about himself.

"I'm definitely ambitious, and I'm going to fight for anything I believe in," Robinson said. "If I believe that I can return back to the field and do what I need to do to the level that I want to do it, then that's the steps I'm taking to put myself in that position."

The rookie's training in the past week made it clear that he was ready to return to the game, and on Wednesday, he achieved a similar level of expertise in the game that he had displayed in training camp.

Robinson resumes playing just ahead of Sunday's game, the fifth game for the team this season. The Commanders have not had the strongest start this season, winning only their first game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and losing the following three games, according to the team's schedule.
