Philadelphia DHS worker arrested, charged in connection to toddler's dying

A kid welfare caseworker turned herself in to Philadelphia police to deal with expenses in connection with the demise of a 3-calendar year-old female from July.

On Monday, Jendayi Mawusi, 25, surrendered to law enforcement and was billed with 3rd-diploma murder, involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a kid with her involvement in the death of Hope Jones.

Mawusi was the contracted social worker in demand of checking the welfare of the kid while underneath the supervision of Jones' foster guardian, Kiana Casey.

"Mawusi’s final go to to Casey’s household as a Case Supervisor was on July 12, 2022 – soon ahead of crisis responders ended up termed to the household and tried out heroically to save 3-yr-old Hope Jones’s existence." the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Workplace said on Tuesday. "As a Situation Supervisor, Mawusi was a point out-mandated reporter, which means she was lawfully obligated to make a report if she had sensible trigger to suspect that Jones was a sufferer of little one abuse. On July 23, Philadelphia Law enforcement have been referred to as to Casey's property. Authorities found 3-year-outdated Jones unconscious. 

Police rushed her to a community medical center, but she was pronounced lifeless a short time later on.

A Philadelphia Medical Examiner afterwards decided that the cause of Jones's loss of life was blunt force trauma.

An autopsy uncovered that Jones experienced quite a few contusions and hemorrhages throughout her system, notably on her arms and legs.
