Former President Donald Trump showered King Charles III and British Prime Minister Liz Truss with high praise.

In an interview published Tuesday, Trump said he knew Charles "quite well" because he spent time with the royal during his visits to the United Kingdom while he was the president, saying he believes Charles will not be too outspoken when it comes to politics.

"I think he’ll probably keep it where it’s politically a little bit because he feels very strong about things, and not everybody agrees with that," Trump told GB News. "I think he’ll probably not discuss certain elements of what he believes 100%."

Charles, who became king after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was vocal about a wide range of topics as the Prince of Wales, including climate change and alternative medicine. In contrast, the queen steered clear of publicly commenting on politics.

"Probably difficult when you’re the king — you want to have 100% of the people love you like [they did the] queen," Trump said. "Everybody loved her, right? She didn’t have that kind of an agenda. I think Charles is going to do very well. I think he’s got a great way about him."

The former president also praised Truss, the new prime minister, claiming he was surprised at the hits she received over her economic policies.

"I like some of the things she's done. She seems very nice," Trump said. "I cut taxes substantially and we did much more business. She's done that, and she's taken some hits from it, which surprises me. It could be that at the end of the year, there will be bigger revenues. It's going to be very interesting. What she did was very inverse to what some people thought, but that doesn't mean that they were right. I have a feeling that she will be right."

Truss unveiled her "mini-budget" last month but backtracked on her plan to raise government borrowing to fund tax cuts for the wealthy over the weekend. In the wake of her mini-budget, the pound dropped to its lowest level against the U.S. dollar before recovering.

Although Trump praised Britain's newest leaders, he had less favorable reviews of Truss's predecessor, former Boris Johnson, who was under great pressure to resign after Conservative lawmakers and staff members filed their resignations over the "Partygate" scandal.

"Boris was a friend of mine — perhaps he still is — but I haven't spoken to him in a while," Trump said. "The problem Boris has is he went liberal all of a sudden, and I think that is crazy. He's a good man but something happened to him. He changed. He went for windmills all over the place, and he went a little bit wokier than I believe he is, and I think ultimately that is the thing that got him out."
