"The CDC, NIH, and DOD furnished 22 awards totaling $28.9 million specifically to Chinese entities which includes universities and other investigation institutions," the GAO report states.

The U.S. government funding, according to the GAO, went to Chinese entities to conduct a "huge array of research, which include disorder surveillance, vaccination scientific studies, and the development of new medicine."

The GAO observed that Chinese entities also obtained further federal exploration resources by way of "subawards from award recipients."
