Texas AG Ken Paxton investigating Walmart above its opioid product sales

Texas Legal professional Typical Ken Paxton claimed Tuesday he is launching an investigation into Walmart's opioid gross sales to decide if the retail large improperly crammed prescriptions. 

Paxton issued a civic investigative demand to Walmart for attainable violations of the Texas Misleading Trade Tactics Act, according to a news launch from his business. 

The CID is linked to the advertising, sale, dispensing and distribution of prescription opioids. 

"I have fought for Texans who have been tragically impacted by the illegal advertising and sale of opioids, which have caused dependancy and the untimely fatalities of 1000's of men and women just about every calendar year," Paxton reported in a release. "I am committed to keeping pharmacies accountable if they performed a role in this devastating epidemic."

The investigation will heart on Walmart's compliance with submitting files relevant to opioid orders relationship back again to January 2006 to the Drug Enforcement Administration and condition agencies. 

In a statement to G3 Box News, Walmart claimed it has "in no way made, promoted or promoted opioids, and pharmacists aren’t medical professionals and never publish opioid prescriptions."

"We are assured in our file encouraging combat the opioid disaster, and we are very pleased of our pharmacists, who assist clients realize the hazards about opioid prescriptions, and have refused to fill hundreds of hundreds of opioid prescriptions they believed could be problematic," the statement stated. "As a final result of Walmart’s refusal to fill opioid prescriptions, several health regulators (together with the Texas Medical Board), health care groups, medical doctors and individuals say that Walmart is going way too much in refusing to fill opioid prescriptions, and even say we are improperly interfering in the physician-client romance. Walmart and our pharmacists are torn amongst the calls for on pharmacists imposed by opioids plaintiffs on one particular aspect and health agencies and regulators on the other, and clients are caught in the center."

The federal federal government sued Walmart in 2020 above its part in fueling the nation's opioid disaster.
